There are a million and one boring dog collars out there. The Waverider studded leather dog collar gives you something different.

Set with alternating curved and domed silver studs, and available in a huge variety of colours, this handmade Italian leather collar is perfect for any dog (and owner) who wants to look stylish while out walking.

All our leather collars are made from butter-soft Italian calf leather, with rolled edges to prevent chaffing. They may feel soft as velvet, but these collars are tough.  They’re built to last, with a leather core to add strength and durability.

The studs and waves are hand-riveted so they won’t come off, even during the most boisterous walkies. And if your dog loves to get muddy, just give the collar a quick wipe with a soft cloth. The leather will come up looking as good as new.

The most difficult thing about our leather collars is deciding your favourite colour. There’s a choice of nearly 30 colours – from brilliantly vibrant to subtly muted – and because the leather is colour-fast, it will remain on the collar, not transfer to your dog’s neck.

Once you’ve picked your favourite colour from the dropdown, why not complete the look with a matching leather dog lead.   You'll save £5 if you buy a lead with a collar.

How to measure your dog's neck for a leather dog collar

Every leather dog collar that we make is tailor made to fit your dog’s neck like a glove, with enough room to tighten or loosen to allow for differences due to grooming.  No more annoying flaps of leather that look unsightly and more often than not get chewed on.

It really couldn't be easier to measure your dog’s neck for a handmade leather dog collar from Petiquette Collars.  All you will need is a soft tape measure or a piece of string, a pen and paper, and perhaps most importantly, your dog.

The MOST important thing to take into account when measuring though is DO NOT MEASURE THE TOTAL LENGTH OF AN EXISTING COLLAR.  This will lead to an incorrect sized collar.

Petiquette Collars generally cover a 2" - 3" neck size range.  So for example, a 10" - 12" collar.  The first hole would be 10" from the buckle, and the last hole would be 12" from the buckle.  Please see the image below for a visual representation.

We are always happy to help when it comes to choosing the size for your dog collar to ensure the perfect fit for your canine friend.  If you are in any doubt, please contact us.

Measuring your dog for a classic collar

Step 1

Have your dog stand comfortably, hopefully they won’t wriggle too much, but if they do, then bribery with some tasty treats can help.  Wrap the tape measure or piece of string around the middle of your dog’s neck so that it is touching the fur but is not tight around the neck.

Step 2

Make a note of this reading and then take a look at the sizes we offer for each of our bespoke collars.

We would recommend that you choose the collar size where the smallest hole would be as close to the neck measurement as possible.

For example

If your dog has a neck size of roughly 13.5”, then you should choose a 13” - 15” collar size.  This will give enough room to tighten it should they lose a little weight, and it gives enough room to slacken it if needed.

Measuring a sighthound for a collar

Step 1

If you have a sighthound such as an Italian Greyhound, Whippet, lurcher or Greyhound for example, rather than measuring around the middle of the neck, wrap the tape measure so that it is fairly snug, just behind the ears and under the chin at the top of the neck.

Step 2

As with our classic collars would recommend that you choose the collar size where the smallest hole is as close to the neck measurement as possible.

If you are measuring for a house collar, we would advise that you measure further down the neck, so that the collar will hang fairly loosely.

Measuring your dog for a martingale collar

We offer two types of martingale/half check collars.  Slip-on collars, which slide over the head (so need to be large enough to go over the head), and buckle style collars.  The sizing is ever so slightly different for each, so please ensure you check our sizing guide below to ensure the perfect fit.

How to measure your dog for a slip-on martingale or half check collar

  • Wrap a soft tape measure around the widest part of your dog's head so that it's fairly snug (often around the ears) and take that measurement.
  • Take a fairly snug measurement around the middle of their neck too.
  • If the head is larger than the middle of the neck, use the head measurement to determine the size needed.
  • If the neck is larger than the head, then use the neck measurement to determine the size needed.
  • Once you've got the size you need, add 1" to the measurement for smaller dogs (up to roughly 14" neck size) or add 2" for larger dogs.
  • Enter this final size as the collar size needed from the drop down menu.

How to measure your dog for a buckle style martingale or half check collar

  • Wrap a soft tape measure around the middle of the neck where the collar will sit so that it's fairly snug (often around the ears) and take that measurement.
  • Add 1" to the measurement for smaller dogs (up to roughly 14" neck size) or add 2" for larger dogs.
  • Enter this final size as the collar size needed from the drop down menu.

Cannot recommend enough

Our older dogs have had petiquette collars for the last few years so it was a no brainer that this was the only place to buy a collar for our new puppy. The collars are excellent quality leather and I love the options and personalisation options. Would not hesitate to recommend you will not find better quality collars anywhere else.
