How to measure your dog's neck for a leather dog collar

Every leather dog collar that we make is tailor made to fit your dog’s neck like a glove, with enough room to tighten or loosen to allow for differences due to grooming.  No more annoying flaps of leather that look unsightly and more often than not get chewed on.

It really couldn't be easier to measure your dog’s neck for a handmade leather dog collar from Petiquette Collars.  All you will need is a soft tape measure or a piece of string, a pen and paper, and perhaps most importantly, your dog.

We are always happy to help when it comes to choosing the size for your dog collar to ensure the perfect fit for your canine friend.  If you are in any doubt, please contact us.

Measuring your dog for a classic collar

Step 1

Have your dog stand comfortably, hopefully they won’t wriggle too much, but if they do, then bribery with some tasty treats can help.  Wrap the tape measure or piece of string around the middle of your dog’s neck so that it is touching the fur but is not tight around the neck.

Step 2

Make a note of this reading and then take a look at the sizes we offer for each of our bespoke collars.

We would recommend that you choose the collar size where the smallest hole would be as close to the neck measurement as possible.

For example

If your dog has a neck size of roughly 13.5”, then you should choose a 13” - 15” collar size.  This will give enough room to tighten it should they lose a little weight, and it gives enough room to slacken it if needed.

Measuring a sighthound for a collar

Step 1

If you have a sighthound such as an Italian Greyhound, Whippet, lurcher or Greyhound for example, rather than measuring around the middle of the neck, wrap the tape measure so that it is fairly snug, just behind the ears and under the chin at the top of the neck.

Step 2

As with our classic collars would recommend that you choose the collar size where the smallest hole is as close to the neck measurement as possible.

If you are measuring for a house collar, we would advise that you measure further down the neck, so that the collar will hang fairly loosely.

WARNING - THIS LUXURY DOG COLLAR WILL CAUSE ENVY IN OTHER DOG WALKERS

The Chevron luxury dog collar is one of our most extravagant designs and is new for Spring 2019.

This gorgeous collar is handmade from the highest quality Italian leather with a zigzag pattern of genuine Swarovski crystals. Better still, you can customise it to create a one-of-a-kind look.

With dozens of super-soft leather colours to choose from and a kaleidoscope of glistening crystals, you’ll be hard pressed to find another dog wearing the same exquisite collar that you order.

We place the crystals by hand as close together as possible so that when the sun hits them, you’ll need to have your sunglasses on!

Complete the set with a matching lead

Your dog is guaranteed to look fabulous wearing our Chevron collar, but why not complete the look with a matching crystallised lead? We'll make your lead in the same colour as your collar, and add the same stunning pattern of crystals at the base, next to the clasp.

PLEASE NOTE - on 1/2" and 5/8" wide leads, we'll only be able to add a single row of crystals.

Of course, if you'd prefer a classic leather lead without any bling, that's always an option. Our leads are approximately 1 metre in length and come in a range of widths.

Leads are approx 1 metre long. Crystal leads will have the same colour crystals at the base of the lead

Customizations Total: £0.00
