How to measure your dog's neck for a leather dog collar

Every leather dog collar that we make is tailor made to fit your dog’s neck like a glove, with enough room to tighten or loosen to allow for differences due to grooming.  No more annoying flaps of leather that look unsightly and more often than not get chewed on.

It really couldn't be easier to measure your dog’s neck for a handmade leather dog collar from Petiquette Collars.  All you will need is a soft tape measure or a piece of string, a pen and paper, and perhaps most importantly, your dog.

We are always happy to help when it comes to choosing the size for your dog collar to ensure the perfect fit for your canine friend.  If you are in any doubt, please contact us.

Measuring your dog for a classic collar

Step 1

Have your dog stand comfortably, hopefully they won’t wriggle too much, but if they do, then bribery with some tasty treats can help.  Wrap the tape measure or piece of string around the middle of your dog’s neck so that it is touching the fur but is not tight around the neck.

Step 2

Make a note of this reading and then take a look at the sizes we offer for each of our bespoke collars.

We would recommend that you choose the collar size where the smallest hole would be as close to the neck measurement as possible.

For example

If your dog has a neck size of roughly 13.5”, then you should choose a 13” - 15” collar size.  This will give enough room to tighten it should they lose a little weight, and it gives enough room to slacken it if needed.

Measuring a sighthound for a collar

Step 1

If you have a sighthound such as an Italian Greyhound, Whippet, lurcher or Greyhound for example, rather than measuring around the middle of the neck, wrap the tape measure so that it is fairly snug, just behind the ears and under the chin at the top of the neck.

Step 2

As with our classic collars would recommend that you choose the collar size where the smallest hole is as close to the neck measurement as possible.

If you are measuring for a house collar, we would advise that you measure further down the neck, so that the collar will hang fairly loosely.

Does your pooch deserve a Christmas treat? Well, of course it does.

This Christmas Charm dog collar can be made in any colour of leather and crystal that takes your fancy. Let your imagination run free. After all... It’s Christmas!

The collar will be made by hand, with a random assortment of festive silliness – snowmen, stockings, Santa in his sleigh, Christmas wreaths, snowflakes and stars – each individually sown into place with strong nylon filament.

Bear in mind... your dog may not want you to take it off on Twelfth Night. It’s gorgeously comfortable, made from super-soft Italian leather with a comfortable lining of the same supple leather against your dog’s neck.

What about another Christmas treat?

Why not finish off the festive look with a 1 metre leather dog lead. We can make it in plain leather, or for the full Christmas bling effect, we can put a matching set of charms and crystals at the base of the lead.

Leads are approx 1 metre long. Crystal leads will have the same colour crystals at the base of the lead

Customizations Total: £0.00
