When you’re out walking your dog, be prepared for envious looks. The Crystal Combo collar glints and sparkles in the sunlight, with a fabulous kaleidoscopic effect as the light refracts through the crystals.
Handmade from soft Italian leather, this collar will suit boys as well as girls. It features dazzling Preciosa crystal in a choice of small and medium crystal. Choose from dozens of leather colours, then have fun choosing your crystal colours.
Each crystal is riveted securely into place by hand so it won’t fall out of its casing, no matter how much your dog likes scratching and bouncing around.
All Petiquette crystal dog collars are designed for comfort and durability. Soft, supple Italian calf leather is wrapped around a robust leather core, with a velvety soft leather lining against your dog’s neck. Softly rounded edges prevent fraying or chaffing – and as the leather gets older, it just keeps getting softer.
Is your old dog lead looking a bit tired?
Why not treat yourself (and your dog) to a matching leather lead. It could be plain coloured leather, or we can make it with the same crystal design next to the trigger clip.
How to measure your dog's neck for a leather dog collar
Every leather dog collar that we make is tailor made to fit your dog’s neck like a glove, with enough room to tighten or loosen to allow for differences due to grooming. No more annoying flaps of leather that look unsightly and more often than not get chewed on.
It really couldn't be easier to measure your dog’s neck for a handmade leather dog collar from Petiquette Collars. All you will need is a soft tape measure or a piece of string, a pen and paper, and perhaps most importantly, your dog.
The MOST important thing to take into account when measuring though is DO NOT MEASURE THE TOTAL LENGTH OF AN EXISTING COLLAR. This will lead to an incorrect sized collar.
Petiquette Collars generally cover a 2" - 3" neck size range. So for example, a 10" - 12" collar. The first hole would be 10" from the buckle, and the last hole would be 12" from the buckle. Please see the image below for a visual representation.
We are always happy to help when it comes to choosing the size for your dog collar to ensure the perfect fit for your canine friend. If you are in any doubt, please contact us.
Measuring your dog for a classic collar
Have your dog stand comfortably, hopefully they won’t wriggle too much, but if they do, then bribery with some tasty treats can help. Wrap the tape measure or piece of string around the middle of your dog’s neck so that it is touching the fur but is not tight around the neck.
Make a note of this reading and then take a look at the sizes we offer for each of our bespoke collars.
We would recommend that you choose the collar size where the smallest hole would be as close to the neck measurement as possible.
If your dog has a neck size of roughly 13.5”, then you should choose a 13” - 15” collar size. This will give enough room to tighten it should they lose a little weight, and it gives enough room to slacken it if needed.
Measuring a sighthound for a collar
If you have a sighthound such as an Italian Greyhound, Whippet, lurcher or Greyhound for example, rather than measuring around the middle of the neck, wrap the tape measure so that it is fairly snug, just behind the ears and under the chin at the top of the neck.
As with our classic collars would recommend that you choose the collar size where the smallest hole is as close to the neck measurement as possible.
If you are measuring for a house collar, we would advise that you measure further down the neck, so that the collar will hang fairly loosely.
Measuring your dog for a martingale collar
We offer two types of martingale/half check collars. Slip-on collars, which slide over the head (so need to be large enough to go over the head), and buckle style collars. The sizing is ever so slightly different for each, so please ensure you check our sizing guide below to ensure the perfect fit.
How to measure your dog for a slip-on martingale or half check collar
- Wrap a soft tape measure around the widest part of your dog's head so that it's fairly snug (often around the ears) and take that measurement.
- Take a fairly snug measurement around the middle of their neck too.
- If the head is larger than the middle of the neck, use the head measurement to determine the size needed.
- If the neck is larger than the head, then use the neck measurement to determine the size needed.
- Once you've got the size you need, add 1" to the measurement for smaller dogs (up to roughly 14" neck size) or add 2" for larger dogs.
- Enter this final size as the collar size needed from the drop down menu.
How to measure your dog for a buckle style martingale or half check collar
- Wrap a soft tape measure around the middle of the neck where the collar will sit so that it's fairly snug (often around the ears) and take that measurement.
- Add 1" to the measurement for smaller dogs (up to roughly 14" neck size) or add 2" for larger dogs.
- Enter this final size as the collar size needed from the drop down menu.
