How to measure your dog's neck for a leather dog collar

Every leather dog collar that we make is tailor made to fit your dog’s neck like a glove, with enough room to tighten or loosen to allow for differences due to grooming.  No more annoying flaps of leather that look unsightly and more often than not get chewed on.

It really couldn't be easier to measure your dog’s neck for a handmade leather dog collar from Petiquette Collars.  All you will need is a soft tape measure or a piece of string, a pen and paper, and perhaps most importantly, your dog.

We are always happy to help when it comes to choosing the size for your dog collar to ensure the perfect fit for your canine friend.  If you are in any doubt, please contact us.

Measuring your dog for a classic collar

Step 1

Have your dog stand comfortably, hopefully they won’t wriggle too much, but if they do, then bribery with some tasty treats can help.  Wrap the tape measure or piece of string around the middle of your dog’s neck so that it is touching the fur but is not tight around the neck.

Step 2

Make a note of this reading and then take a look at the sizes we offer for each of our bespoke collars.

We would recommend that you choose the collar size where the smallest hole would be as close to the neck measurement as possible.

For example

If your dog has a neck size of roughly 13.5”, then you should choose a 13” - 15” collar size.  This will give enough room to tighten it should they lose a little weight, and it gives enough room to slacken it if needed.

Measuring a sighthound for a collar

Step 1

If you have a sighthound such as an Italian Greyhound, Whippet, lurcher or Greyhound for example, rather than measuring around the middle of the neck, wrap the tape measure so that it is fairly snug, just behind the ears and under the chin at the top of the neck.

Step 2

As with our classic collars would recommend that you choose the collar size where the smallest hole is as close to the neck measurement as possible.

If you are measuring for a house collar, we would advise that you measure further down the neck, so that the collar will hang fairly loosely.

This leather and crystal dog lead looks stunning by itself, but it’s even better with one of ourSwarovski crystal dog collars.

The crystal dog lead is handmade from Italian leather and decorated with a row of sparkling Swarovski crystals. The soft leather will feel beautifully comfortable in your hand as you’re out walking your dog. It’s also strong, supple and durable.

What’s more, you can customise the lead in your choice of leather and crystal colours. First, take a look at our wide range of contemporary leather colours and pick your favourite. Then choose your crystal colours. You can go for a single colour, or two alternating colours. It’s entirely up to you.

We use genuine Swarovski crystals, and each one will be riveted into place by hand, so there’s no danger of losing any of them.

The D-ring in the handle means that you can clip the lead round your shoulder or waist while your dog is off lead.

Our handmade crystal dog lead is approximately 1 metre long and is available in a range of 4 widths.

Need help choosing your colours?

We have over two dozen shades of soft Italian leather that your luxury leather dog collar can be made with, and over a dozen colours of genuine Swarovski crystals.

If you need any help deciding which colours work well together, then feel free to get in touch and we'll be happy to help.
